Open Learning Initiative - OLIve

OLIve is a free of charge, academic non-degree programme to people of refugee and asylum seeking status to support them in connecting their previous professional and academic experience to their new lives in Europe, including the possibility of higher education studies at a later stage.

OLIve is funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission and realised by the Media Governance and Industries Research Lab at the Department of Communication of the University of Vienna, in cooperation with the CEU – Central European University, Budapest, and the University of East London. Courses will be held at the University of Vienna.

OLIve is part of University's Third Mission ProjectSocial Engagement

Social Engagement refers to the targeted use of scientific knowledge for resolving manifold societal challenges.

We are happy to announce new OLIve Programme 2019/20!

After the successful completion of the Open Learning Initiative (OLIve), we move on to the second upgraded edition! Based on previous experience, the consortium has designed a new round of courses and will offer preparatory university courses for the period of two years, with the start scheduled for spring 2019. The programme is run together with the Central European University in Hungary, the University of East London, UK and the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

The OLIve Team Vienna is proud to announce an innovation of the new edition. As part of the OLIve programme, we designed tailor-made offers for youth between 16 and 18 years old (OLIve Youth) and particularly for women (OLIve Women). In absence of schooling opportunities in Austria for refugee minors older than 15, the courses help to close the gap and enable access to education for this disadvantaged group, whereas in case of women OLIve addresses their needs and is adjusted to specific time constraints i.e. due to child care responsibilities. We aim at creating a safe learning environment, therefore tutors in the latter group will be female, which should encourage participation of wider groups of women. The project takes place in close cooperation with local NGOs and experienced civic initiatives.

Registration will open in the beginning of 2019.

OLIve team is looking forward to the new applications!
